What Does this transviganal Ultrasound Result Mean?
Hi doc. Im mj can i ask about whats the meaning of my transviganal ultrasound and heres the result.
Within the fundus of an anteverted uterus is a single misshapen gestational sac with a mean sac diameter of 1.99 cm, corresponding to 6weeks and 4 days age of gestation. No evident yolk sac or embryonic echo.
Both ovaries are obscured by intestinal gas.
Cervix measured 2.87x2.60x2.45 cm with homogenous echopattern. No focal mass noted.
TVS(trans vaginal sonography)findings suggests absence of fetal pole in 6 weeks and 4 days age of gestation.Fetal pole should have been visualized by this period. This condition is called as blighted ovum in which no fetal pole is visualized in G-sac when fetal pole is expected to be seen .
You may need repeat ultrasound after 10 days.It is important to see progression. Other findings are normal. Cervix, adnexa appears normal. There is no fluid in POD.
Hello, thanks for writing to HCM. In reporting an early pregnancy a timeline is followed for appearance of structures on the ultrasound. The structures to evaluate are the gestational sac, yolk sac and embryo, which appear in descending order. In your report the sac is irregular in shape and measures 1.9cm. By this time, normally a yolk sac should have appeared on the TV scan. However a correlation with your last menstrual period is also to be considered to decide if this is an abnormal scan - i.e. if the gestational age by Ultrasound and by LMP correspond or not. In such a case, I would suggest a followup study after a week to check for sac growth or non- viability, before confirming the diagnosis. Kindly discuss this with your obstetrician. Hope I have helped you with your query. All the best.
